There is a new foldable in the Indian market. And it is crazy slim. We mean, look at that picture there. That's the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, which has just been released. It is actually the slimmest, lightest foldable in the Indian market and yet it is still the most powerful out there. Yes, the price is ouch-worthy (hey, this is a foldable) but we will talk of that later mainly because this phone is ACTUALLY perhaps the best foldable out there.

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro gets a LOT of foldable things right It comes with a large 6.53 inch AMOLED external (or cover) display which is full HD+ and has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. This is bigger than the displays on the OnePlus Open or the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and is actually perfect to be used as a proper phone, You will need to open the device only when you actually want a big display!

And when you do, you will again get to see a REALLY big display. - the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro has a 8.03 inch AMOLED display, which is again bigger than the ones on the OnePlus Open and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 - and also has a 2K+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. Can you feel the 'gap' in the middle - well, yes, but it is rather faint and is not even very visible. These are early days, though - ridges tend to get worse with time. But this is still VERY impressive.

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro also boasts a 5700 mAh battery, which is yet again bigger than the OnePlus Open and the Galaxy Z Fold5. And in spite of all this, is actually thinner than those two phones - it is a mere 11.2 mm thin (the OnePlus Open is 11.2 and the Galaxy Fold 13.4 mm). And at 237 grams, it is very light for its size - this is a foldable you can easily carry in your pocket!

Frankly, all this would have impressive by itself, but Vivo has thrown the spec kitchen sink at the phone too. It has the same processor as the Galaxy S24 Ultra - Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (something the Galaxy Fold and OnePlus lack), and a staggering 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.

Foldables generally have less than great cameras, but the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro could change that. It packs in a 50 MP main sensor with OIS, a 64 MP telephoto with OIS and 3x zoom and a 50 MP ultrawide camera with autofocus on the back. The external display has a 32 MP selfie camera and so does the internal display. And yes, the cameras on the back come with Zeiss features, similar to those seen on Vivo's very impressive X100 range!

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro pretty much ticks every box you would want on a foldable flagship device - best processor, great cameras, big battery (which charges at 100W, incidentally), big brilliant displays...and packs them into a sleek, slim form factor. The back is glass, the frame aluminium and it looks very good too!

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro ticks another foldable flagship box - that of super premium pricing. It comes for Rs 1,59,999, which makes it a very expensive proposition. But then, there are no foldables that can match it in spec and design terms. In fact, we think its biggest rivals might be the likes of the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which are conventional phones but come with huge price tags and lots of productivity. Would you pick one of them over this? Do let us know. As always, any queries about the device are welcome - we will try to answer them to the best of our ability!

@NimishAndAkriti do you think Apple will ever launch a foldable phone?
Well, a few years ago, we would have said it was very unlikely, as Apple liked to have uniformity across devices. The 'new' Apple that chases volumes is a very different kettle of tech fish, though, so we would not rule it out at all...
