The new button could open up a lot of possibilities, hope it’s context aware and open to devs. An example would be as a shutter button in camera apps.

A lot of functionalities can be achieved with the volume buttons as well. You can click a picture with the volume up button.

A context aware action button is infinitely more configurable. Imagine opening up Spotify and mapping the button to your favourite playlist.
It just opens up tons of possibilities while still maintaining the quick silent functionality when on home screen.
