Review: Bhakshak

Review: The small media team aims to save young orphan girls from a cruel shelter in Munawwarpur, Bihar, owned by the influential Bansi Sahu. But corruption in the state makes it hard for the police to help. Can Vaishali and Bhaskar stand up to threats and pressure to uncover the truth?

Director wants to honour the brave people in small towns who speak up against injustice, despite facing challenges. He shows how social media can sometimes make us less caring, even as powerful people try to control the narrative.

The movie's theme is important, and the lead actor's performance is genuine, but it feels like it's stuck in 90s melodrama. The villain, Bansi Sahu, is talked about too much but doesn't come across as threatening. The investigation lacks excitement, making the film feel tiring instead of thrilling. The storytelling doesn't make you care about the characters or their struggles. Vaishali's husband also doesn't have enough time to show his feelings.

The lady police officer tells Vaishali that she can't act without evidence. Both cops and journalists have their roles: cops gather evidence, and journalists inform society. Putting all the responsibility on journalists isn't fair, as press freedom is limited, and they don't have the authority of police.

Bhumi Pednekar is a reliable actor known for playing strong women. Despite being from Maharashtra, she nails the North Indian accent. Sanjay Mishra's talent feels underused, and Aditya Srivastava isn't very convincing as the villain.
