It took me a month to read this, at the beginning it was crass, creepy, problematic and just trash, but I kept at it, irrespective of the untasteful sexual, almost voyeuristic POV of Bukowski, before I picked this up I had a bit of an idea about what I was getting into, but there are themes that were a bit too graphic for my liking and even made me flip out, made me feel uncomfortable in ways I didn't know was possible and made me almost hate him for his perspective, and I judged him for the things that he wrote, but then came, "An Unkind Poem" and "Soul" and the very pragmatic "Bedpans" it was a difficult read for the raw, nonchalant realness Bukowski has written these with. His views are polarizing, this book was something that I picked up to challenge myself and force myself to read to be able to push my boundaries when it comes to art and storytelling.
A fair warning - if you choose to read this, let me tell you, it isn't everyone's cup of tea, there are poetries that might make you want to throw up coz of how filthy they can be and Bukowski doesn't hold back.
I am still not sure whether I love him or hate him as a writer, but I am definitely astonished alarmed and amazed by his writing.
