How To Thrive In An Unknowable Future -
Derek Sivers is one of the few people I’ve learnt a lot from. One list from him on the idea of thriving in an unknowable future that I often revisit -
Prepare for the worst. The best case scenarios do not need preparation.
Expect disaster. Assume it’s going to happen and make your plans accordingly.
Own as little as possible. Disasters do not impact you much when you own less stuff.
Choose opportunity, not loyalty. Have no loyalty to location, corporation or your past public statements.
Choose the plan with the most options. For example, renting vs buying. You’re free to move when you rent. A 20 year loan will tie you to your employer.
Avoid planning in most situations. I personally prefer preparation and consistency over constant focus on goal setting.
