Pluto was THE anime of the year for me. No questions asked or entertained. It had so much to say about transhumanism through incredible character arcs, adequately spaced and timed with respect to the source material. Plus I'm a sucker for characters who are doomed from the start. So, it was a no-brainer.

Yes, I did like how this is a lil throwback to the old school sci-fi with its focus on robots but also has a very fresh outlook on the whole thing.

Urasawa is a big Osamu Tezuka fanboi. I'm sure this was one of his bigger and special passion projects, although he's better known for Monster.
