The movie from frame 1 belongs to our man — Mr. Ahlawat! And rightly so, he invents a new character out of thin air and how 🙌 If you watch this movie and forget the ‘teacher’, that will be something. You just can’t! ⚠️ Spoilers ahead ⚠️

It’s an official remake of the Japanese best-selling novel 'Devotion Of Suspect X'. And Drishyam was the same but unofficially. The stories might seem similar, for obvious reasons, but Drishyam was more emotional whereas Jaane Jaan is mysterious and cold. The movie’s also way more beautifully shot and framed. The cinematography and the location choices are brilliant 🫡

Direction is good. Not great. It’s not Sujoy’s best movie yet! I’d say the same for all the actors involved, other than the one! You know who, don’t you? At the same time, everyone does justice to their character.

You need a ‘hot’ neighbour, as the inspector says in the movie, who’s also a protective mother. Kareena is undoubtedly an apt choice. One wishes her character’s screenplay offered more meat and she could show the actor in her a lot better. Alas!

The two flavours of the season, Vijay Varma and Saurabh Sachdeva, are again apt for their parts. The story needed a jovial inspector who’s also quite sharp. Vijay gets into the ‘handsome’ role effortlessly. Yet again, the screenplay doesn’t offer him to show any of his acting prowess. But but but, he’s fun! It’s one of his most likeable characters so far. Sir Varma 🫡

Saurabh Sachdeva has hit some jackpot. He’s featuring in everything OTT that’s releasing lately. What a range of characters. I hope his career only goes upwards from here coz he truly deserves it. Another short but significant role 🙌 The dialogues are super. Fun, witty, atmospheric and how. Please give us more of such dialogues, oh dear makers 😁

Mystery is one genre I particularly love and can’t ever get enough of. On the whole, I so wish we make more of such movies. And did I say that Mr. Ahlawat is epic here? He should get every other complicated role that a writer can imagine. He deserves more in his kitty! If you’ve seen the movie, what’s your take? Waiting to read more from you all ✨
