Doesn't feel lonely to be the only one who didn't like season 1

You didnât like the first season?

Nope. Only the last episode worked.

I didnât like quite a few parts as well. Especially the second last episode.
And have tempered my expectations accordingly. But as an ASOIAF fan I pray they fly high.

But I donât think they will be able to deliver on the book as they have already kind of selected sides in the first season.

GOT is better of a story as well. The conflict and politics stretch across. I just hope Martin finishes it oh god đđđ

The og Fire & Blood novel is written like a pseudo-historical thesis with no pov characters, that tells multiple versions of the same events, with add-on commentary from different writers. So there is never a consensus on which version of the event is true and which is distorted propaganda. An interesting literary exercise on paper for sure but that is also impossible to adapt to the visual medium.

That is also why I believe some people might find the series lacking because it doesn't have what are asoiaf novels greatest strengths - rich detailed characterisation of its character's inner lives. All major characterization in the HOTD comes from the TV writers and the actors themselves since there is very little on the paper. Thats the reason why Paddy Considine's King Viserys was such a breakout character in S1 because 90% of it was a tv creation.

I thought it was a great addition to be honest. The book Viserys would have felt very caricature like dum dum glutinous king on the show. What did you think?

Ohh yes, show Viserys is a legit improvement from the text. He does many things for the narrative of the whole series.

1) Firstly, It gives us a glimpse of what ruling seven kingdoms was really like. Even the mighty targaryens at the height of their power, had to tread carefully amidst multiple alliances, keeping seven kingdom's stakeholders satisfied with marriages, lands, titles and what not. It shows their position was always precarious, even with the dragons.

Secondly, the visual journey of him from a quite healthy & handsome, targaryen to a bedridden almost mutilated corpse due to an unaccounted disease served as a symbolic foreshadowing for what would eventually become of the targaryen dynasty i.e. their downfall caused due to unaccounted internal strifes and conflicts.
kabootar3327
(Also, this adds credence to book readerâs theory that the fall of targaryens was done purposefully by the maesters, as the show gives enough hints that Viserysâs maester intentionally misdiagnosed him. Tho, this still remains ambiguous in both books and the show.)

3) Third, the show's portrayal humanizes him. Viserys wasnât an awful king, nor was he great. He could have been both much worse and much better. This was very important, as his indecisiveness is the epicentre of the whole war. If his character hadnât been given a rich and detailed personality, the narrative wouldnât have hit as hard as it did.

In addition to him, I think Alicent and House Velaryon were also improved from the source (also sorry for walls of text lol)

Alicent is my favourite character on the show because both the show makers and the actors have done such a good job of making her into such a nuanced character.
You see a woman who is constantly trying to plead her case to the universe which has condemned her to suffer forever .

The close age gap between her and Rhaenyra also makes the conflict so much personal and heavy on hearts. It opens up so much more avenues for coming conflict.
I am just a little worried with the scene they showed where she gets attacked by the small folk which would be weird because she was quite loved the city.

I recently got to know about this theory and it so interesting. It is so menacing and feels so real-wordly like the whole social media controlling our brains and Zucc being a lizard.

Yes, the whole thing read so much insidious and creepy. You can look at any major event in three century long targaryen rule and be like, " Hmm....yes, this seem plausible enough to be somehow caused by maesters, or if you don't like the theory, you can always counter it with a lack of any evidence.

My biggest hot take about the show is that Olivia cooke is a much much better actress than Emma DâArcy. She absolutely murders it.

I wonât cross that tbh. But by the looks of the teaser, it feels like Emma is bringing their A Game to the table. And the show might actually send Rhaenyra on a battle. I am STREAMING on multiple screens!!
