"Sure, sons get assets and daughters get cancers."
Grandma has a razor-sharp tongue—she is a stubborn workhorse, depending on nobody, and she is in no ways easy to please. Although a film that is strictly an exploration into Asian familial ties and bonds, grandma's personhood is never compromised, which is what I liked the most about it. At the first 10-min mark, everything seems laid out for you as a viewer, and yet you can't help but succumb to the cornucopia of emotions it brings.
