In my experience most parents mellow down on their own once you show them you will not back down from your decisions and choices. Its kinda war of attrition in a way. We younglings still have time on our side, hence we can hold down the fort for the longer time something that elderly people eventually realize.

Someone told me this once, they said do what you want (start small) and then continue doing it. Parents will disagree in their own ways, whatever that is and then get used to it. And keep stretching it, start small and reach where you want. Aadat is what they need, mostly they have issues because what you are doing is new to them.
