Yaa, i have also felt the same for every book i have read. I feel they miss out on many details and books let us imagine so much more and also have our own perception and its much more engaging.

I know you said a movie and not a series, but just putting it out there. I loved the book and the show equally. But a film doesn't have the luxury of a lengthy running time as a series (so, this example disqualifies.)

I think it ultimately comes down to how faithful to the source material you'd like your film to be. But that calls for a sincere and honest understanding of the material (book) itself. Once you have it, you get to play around with the narrative. Even if it's not a 100% book-to-film adaptation, the results come out great. All great book adaptations are such examples.
