We have been seeing telephoto / zoom cameras on phones for a while. For the most part, these were good enough to give us anything from a basic 2x to a slightly more advanced 5x-8x zoom. However, the new Vivo X200 Pro has taken things to another level. The phone (which we talked about a couple of days ago) packs in a massive 200 megapixel sensor, and is the first phone which actually delivers reasonable snaps even at 20-30x zoom. It is pretty crazy for a phone. Check these samples to understand why we are this impressed!

Let's start, this is the normal view. A foggy morning in Delhi. Can you spot the monkeys? They are on the water tank. Wait for the next snap!
NimishAndAkriti
That's them at about 35x zoom. Not too bad, eh?

One more. Again a cloudy Delhi morning. It IS cold. This time spot the colourful parrot. It is on the house in the front. Again, let's try for the zoom, shall we?
NimishAndAkriti
Again, this is about 35-40x zoom. And the parrot is pretty clear, although the details seem a little fudged.

At the cost of being utterly predictable, here we go one more time. This is taken through a glass windowpane at Khan Market, Go ahead spot the monkey. it is actually at the base of the tree at the centre.

40x zoom shows the monkey. And as the light is not too good, the monkey looks a little blurry, but look again - you can actually see the licence plate of the vehicle near the monkey with stunning clarity!

Now, let's get a few things clear: the zoomed in shots are not in the same class of what you would get from a proper camera with a zoom lens. You can see some smudged colours and the detailing is a little fuzzy, but for a phone camera this is staggering. Honestly, we can easily use the zoomed in snaps on social media without folks minding too much. And these were also shot in less than perfect conditions. This is one phone that is surprising us with its camera. Easily the best zoom we have seen on a phone!
