There are phones that are known for being high performing flagships that give you the best of everything. And then there you have those phones that do not quite hit those super high notes but are actually rock solid performers - the mid-segment players. And one of the best of those got released recently. We are looking at the Redmi Note 14 Pro+.

Xiaomi's Redmi Note series has been known for being rock solid value for money with very little frills. Well, not too many frills, for the series has been climbing up the price ladder in recent years, and while the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is mid-segment, at Rs 30,999, it is more premium mid-segment than classic "just above budget mid-segment."

It comes with some pretty good specs to back that price, though - you get a pretty bright 6.67 inch 2712 x 1220 AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate and one of the most powerful chips in the segment - a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. And you also get a 50 megapixel main sensor with OIS as well as a 50 megapixel telephoto (telephotos are rare at this price), as well as a 8 megapixel ultrawide and a 20 megapixel selfie camera.

Rather astoundingly, it also packs in a huge 6200 mAh battery with support for 90W charing, and a 90W charger in the box as well. Astounding because that is a very big battery inside a frame that is actually 8.8 mm thin. It is a pretty tough frame too - Gorilla Glass Victus 2 in front, Gorilla Glass 7i on the back, and IP68 dust and water resistance, so it can actually survive in the water. It is more smart than stunner in the looks department, but it is a toughie all right.

All of those combine to give a very steady performance. This is pretty much "you want it, you got it" kind of phone - good design which can survive in water, a good display with decent stereo speakers for viewing videos and shows, good processor for every day tasks and even for some high-end gaming (turn down those graphics!), a very decent pair of rear cameras with the 50 MP telephoto doing a good job, and staggering battery life that runs into almost two days!

So should you be considering buying the Redmi Note 14 Pro+? Honestly, it is very good value for money at about Rs 30,999 if what you what is something rock steady that sees through day after day. However, those wanting better cameras might be tempted by the Vivo V40e, those wanting a more powerful chip and a head turning design will think of the very good OnePlus Nord 4, while the Vivo T3 Ultra and Poco F6 remain great options for those just wanting good old power!

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ does not do anything spectacularly well, apart from its crazy good battery life. But it does not miss out on any features too. It is like a Formula One driver that might not finish first every time, but will still find their way to the podium. And we all know how important those are too. Which makes the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ THE phone for those who want a phone that does almost everything well without getting too far north of Rs 30k. And there are plenty of folks like that.
