It is the biggest and most expensive iPhone launched at Glowtime: the iPhone 16 Pro Max. As its name suggests, it is the maxed out version of the iPhone, in every sense of the way. In size, specs, price. Every way. And here is our Quick Look at it!

Unlike the non-pro iPhones that have bagged some design changes this year, the Pro models remain largely the same except for their size. That apart, there are not too many visible differences between the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, and putting on a cover makes them almost indistinguishable, unless you have them next to each other of course. The iPhone Pro Max was already a big phone but Apple took matters on another level this year by making it even larger. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is the tallest iPhone ever at 163 mm (the iPhone 15 Pro Max was 159.9 mm) and comes with a 6.9 inch display - the biggest ever display on an iPhone but even the biggest display on a non-folding flagship smartphone right now!

Surprisingly enough, even with the biggest display ever, the iPhone 16 Pro Max does not feel massive or an absolute unmanageable smartphone. While it stretches palms easily, it does not feel like a tablet’s desperate attempt to fit into a smartphone body. It still feels like a smartphone - you can see it does not really stretch our hands! It does weigh 227 grams but again, for its size, it does not feel overweight.

Some credit for this weight management can be given to the phone’s titanium frame. Sandwiched between glass on the front and back, this frame comes in metallic finish while the back comes with a matt glass, of the same colour as the frame. We received the new Desert Titanium shade which is pretty much gold.

You get a beautiful, tall, Super Retina XDR display, all-screen OLED, always on display with Apple’s ProMotion technology which means you get 120 Hz refresh rate on the device. This is surrounded by slim bezels, and paired with Dynamic Island. The back comes with the same squarish camera unit with three sensors and a flash enclosed within.

The frame is where some change has happened, thanks to the introduction of the Camera Control button on the device which is present on the lower right side of the phone’s frame.

Apart from this, you get the Action button on the top left side which is followed by volume buttons while the power/ lock button is present on the right side towards the top. The top is bare while the base is house to speaker grille, and USB Type C port. In protection terms you get IP68 rating and Ceramic Shield glass,

The phone is a max proposition in other specs terms too. It comes with Apple’s new A18 Pro processor which Apple claims is the most powerful on an iPhone and can challenge desktop chips too. But the greatest interest is in the cameras. The triple camera set up on the device might look exactly like the one of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but actually superior.

You now get two 48 megapixel sensors– a main Fusion sensor and an ultrawide (which used to be 12 megapixel on the 15 Pro Max), paired with a 12 megapixel telephoto sensor. This triple camera set up comes with 5x optical zoom, an array of focal lengths, photographic styles, cinematic video and 4K Dolby Vision video at 120 fps and even 4K ProRes video at 120 fps as well. You also get features like audio zoom, wind noise reduction, spatial video and even a four microphone setup that Apple claims is close to studio level, letting you adjust speech levels of different speakers. Pretty cool on paper - we will be writing about how it works in real life! On the front you get a 12 megapixel camera with ProRes 4K video support at 60 fps on it. Add to this USB 3.0 connectivity which lets you connect and shoot footage directly on to supported portable drives, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max basically is a content creators dream: on which one can capture, post and edit, all in one place.

Although there is still no charger in the box but given its size, the iPhone 16 Pro Max has the biggest battery ever seen on an iPhone and comes with faster wireless charging too - in fact, it seems to charge as quickly over a wired connection as over a wireless one, provided you are using a new MagSafe charger. The phone runs on iOS 18 out of the box and will get Apple Intelligence when it finally arrives. All of this at Rs. 1,44,900, which while being way more expensive than the other iPhones is actually Rs 15,000 lower than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. it is actually a teensy bit lower than that of its predecessor. Bittersweet?
