There is a term in Hindi, perhaps borrowed from another language - Dhinchak. In simple terms, it means something that is very shiny, glittery and showy, and often superficially so. Well, it has been a while since a phone's appearance took our eyes totally off its spec sheet - well, mainly because our eyes were too dazzled to see anything after seeing the phone itself. So here's looking at the phone we call the "dhinchak phone" - the Tecno Pova 6 Pro.

The phone should come with an advisory to use dark glasses while viewing it. Simply because, well, it is kinda sorta shiny. Very shiny. We got the green variant of the phone and it is frankly a dazzler. Whether you like it or not will be subjective, but you get a shiny, reflective back with a transparent-ish kind of look, with LEDs on the upper portion that light up in different patterns, although spotting them among all the shine on the back can sometimes be a bit of an ask. Those lights and that transparent-feels back remind us of...something. Like Nothing.

In fact, Tecno has already got into a spot of battle with Carl Pei's Nothing, which also comes out with phones with LEDs (or "Dynamic Light Mini LEDs" as it calls them) on the back and a transparent design. Tecno has taken out a slightly tongue-in-cheek ad about Nothing, and Pei has replied with a sarcasm laced tweet. But verbal fun and games aside, the Tecno Pova 6 Pro is Nothing like the Nothing Phones - it is way more shiny and glitzy, and makes no claim to being as understatedly elegant as Nothing's phones are. That said, we cannot help but like the sheer derring do of Tecno in coming out with a design that is literally so eye-opening as to be eye-widening,

The big question is: did Tecno actually need to invoke all that jazz? Because the Pova 6 Pro seems quite a good device when you turn it around - it comes with an impressively bright 6.78 inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate, runs on a MediaTek 6080 processor, has a 108 MP main camera, a 32 MP selfie camera, stereo speakers, Android 14 and a massive 6000 mAh battery with 70W charging support and a 70W charger in the box. That's not too bad for Rs 19,999 for a 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage device! Oh and it supports 5G too.

In fact, if you take the back away, the Tecno Pova 6 Pro seems a pretty good device with a very good spec sheet and is even impressively slim at just 7.88 mm (believe us, that IS slim for a device packing in a 6000 mAh battery). However, without that back, the Tecno Pova 6 Pro would have been just another spec warrior with decent design. That back, which might hurt some eyes, gives it an identity of its own. And might well work in its favour. For, let us not forget - many people love Dhinchak stuff (even we do, at times!). It gets them attention. The Tecno Pova 6 Pro definitely will!
