The Samsung Galaxy S and Apple iPhone rivalry is one of the oldest in the tech industry. Sure as clockwork, whenever Apple releases an iPhone, Samsung puts up its own answer to it. And this year it is the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. It comes with the specs, the stylus (yep!) and the price (Rs 1,39,999) to be seen as the ultimate Android an iPhone killer. We just got our hands on it, and well, there's a lot that's familiar. And a lot that's different!

The S 24 Ultra is a big, hefty phone - you cannot use it with one hand. At 232 grams. it is actually heavier than the iPhone 15 Pro Max and at 162.3 mm, taller too, It is no dainty darling but it is a tough and premium one. The front has Gorilla Glass Armor protection, the back is Gorilla Glass too, the frame is mighty Titanium (such Cupertino inspirations!) and the entire phone is IP68 dust and water resistant - you can take it swimming!
The star of the S series has always been its display, and the Galaxy S24 comes with a large 6.8 inch quad HD LTPO Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with 120 Hz refresh rate. At 2600 nits, it is very bright, but there is one BIG change - unlike its predecessors, the S24 Ultra does not have a curved display. It has a flat display with rather sharp corners. This is a pretty big change from Samsung, which had championed curved displays since the Edge series days.
Samsung has also made a big change in the cameras of the S24 Ultra. You still get four flagship level cameras - one 200 MP main with OIS, two telephoto sensors, and one 12 MP ultrawide. But whereas in the S23 Ultra, the telephoto sensors were both 10 MP, this time they comprise one 10 MP and one 50 MP sensor. The optical zoom has also been brought down from 10x to 5x. Samsung claims that larger sensors enable better digital zoom, though. We will see!
You also get the S Pen stylus which slots into the base of the phone. We just wish Samsung would call this the S24 Note, really, as that stylus is such a Note-worthy feature. It remains crazy good even now. The other flagship knick-knacks are also very much in place - a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, high class stereo speakers, a large 5000 mAh battery with support for wireless charging, but no charger, and so on.
There's something else too....
The ace up the sleeve of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is AI. Samsung has brought a number of AI driven features to the device including live call translation, transcription, circle to search and AI editing of photos and videos. In fact, Samsung has gone so far as to say that the phone is powered by AI. Whether this is actually true or just a lot of hype and marketing only time will tell. As of now, we can say the Android giant is in the house, All queries welcome!

The New design remind me alot of my first phone - Xiaomi Mi3. I used that for good 6 years. This phone has launched exactly 10 years after the launch of Mi 3 and is about 10x more expensive 🤣. Will definitely try to buy this one too

Oh yes, there is a lot of similarity between this one and the Mi3 in design terms. The edges are sharper too. I think the Mi3 was the most affordable flagship ever launched in India - Rs 13,999!
