We will come directly to the point: imagine opening your phone's camera, pointing it at the sky, and then see the names of planets and shapes of constellations appear on the phone's display? You can even take pictures of them if you wish. All that happens on the Vivo X100 Pro. We are actually told that it happens on a few other Vivo/iQoo phones but the X100 Pro is the first one we noticed it on. And we are impressed.

The Vivo X100 Pro is the first REAL flagship phone to be released this year. And while it comes with all the trimmings you would expect in a flagship - high res display, crazy powerful processors, big battery, fast charging and so on - its real selling point is its triple 50 MP camera arrangement on the back, designed in collaboration with the legendary Zeiss. Those cameras take great snaps. And can identify stars and constellations too. Neat, right?

Making this happen is a special mode called Astro in the camera app. It is not visible at first - you need to tap on the "more" option in the main camera app and then select Astro from the list of options that appears. Doing this will open the camera in Astro mode and then all you have to do is just point the camera at the sky. Or actually point it anywhere, and the camera will try and identify the stars that lie that direction.

And the results are very impressive - the camera can not just name some of the prominent stars and planets but identifies and even illustrates constellations on your display. It is decently accurate as well. All this happens through software working with a combination of sky maps and GPS. You can even spot where constellations and stars are in the day or on a cloudy evening. Hitting the shutter takes a picture of them too, although it takes a few seconds.

We have seen apps that give us an idea of the stars and constellations in the sky (Night Sky, for instance) and they provide far mode detailed and comprehensive information. The Vivo X100 Pro's camera's Astro mode on the other hand, sticks to simple identification and sketching - you cannot even zoom. That said, it is simple and handy for those who of us who sometimes just like to stare at the sky. The stunning pictures are a bonus. We are starry-eyed!
