We had referred to it in an earlier loop a few days ago and now 2024's first flagship phone is officially here. It is the X100 Pro and it comes from Vivo. Now, Vivo may not make the sort of noise that Samsung or OnePlus makes, but its flagships are generally amazing in terms of photography. The Vivo X100 Pro is no different. Yes, it packs in some high end specs but what makes it special are those cameras, with some Zeiss expertise!

The Vivo X100 Pro has three 50 megapixel cameras on the back, co-engineered with the legendary Zeiss. Leading the trio is a one-inch sensor (as on the X90 Pro and the Xiaomi 13 Pro), with a telephoto giving 4.3x zoom and an ultrawide sensor. And there are some serious camera smarts in here, particularly on that telephoto, which is a floating camera, and comes with special modes including macro telephoto, night telephoto and hyper telephoto.

There are also special portrait modes and that huge main sensor ensures we get a truckload of detail. Vivo's FunTouch interface can be a bit overwhelming at times, but take it from us, there is a lot this phone can do., It comes with Android 14 out of the box, and has all the flagship trimmings you would want - a 6.78 inch curved AMOLED display, a flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chip and. massive 5400 mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging!

It looks pretty good too with what Vivo calls the Sun Halo design. It is basically a huge circular camera unit with a subtly etched (but dust-collecting) rim on a glitter-y glass back. It is not exactly light at 220 grams but is good to hold and pretty solid too - it comes with an aluminium frame and has IP68 dust and water resistance. We are however, going to bet that whoever goes for this one will do so for those three Zeiss-laden cameras!

The big question is whether those cameras make the Vivo X100 Pro worth its extremely premium price of Rs 89,999. That is the sort of price at which you look at the likes of a Pixel 8, an iPhone 15 Plus or a Galaxy S23 Plus. And of course, there is talk of a new Samsung coming even as this is being written. The Vivo X100 Pro has the looks and hype and the specs on paper but also a pretty tough task if it wants to succeed in India. Will it? Let us see!
