The biggest challenge for any foldable phone is literally managing its fold. Almost all foldable phones have this crease along which they fold. And in almost all cases, this crease becomes more visible with the passage of time, and sometimes even develops into cracks, It is, however, unavoidable as the screen folds along it! Most brands have not really covered themselves with glory in this regard. So how does the OnePlus Open fare handle its crease?

The answer is: VERY WELL INDEED. At least so far. We have had the Open for about ten days now and the crease is barely visible. In fact, you will not be able to see it at all if most of the content on the phone is dark. Yes, you can feel it when you run your fingers across the middle of the inner display, but otherwise it is largely invisible. it is very much hidden for most routine tasks like web browsing and even gaming.

The only time when the crease does become very obvious is when you try to use the OnePlus Open as a mini notebook of sorts, using the lower part as a keyboard and the upper part as a display. That apart, the crease on the OnePlus Open is so far a total non-issue. The phone also folds along a very solid hinge and does not give the impression of fragility that some other foldables do. There is also no blurring or disruption when you open or fold it!

We are going to say it out loud - the OnePlus open has perhaps the cleanest implementation of a crease on a foldable. It's unobtrusive, largely invisible, works smoothly and gives the OnePlus Open real tablet feels - something that many other foldables trip up on. A note of caution - these are very early days. Creases tend to get more obvious with time. That is going to be the real challenge of the OnePlus Open. But as of now, it is a star at the crease!
