He is easily the most charismatic character in the history of tech. And every bit as enigmatic as charismatic. Some remember him as a genius, some as a pushy and rude person and still others as someone who changed the world. But who really was StevenPaul Jobs and what was he like? We might never get a completely correct answer, but some authors have tried to unravel the mystique around the man. Here are what we think are the five best books on Steve Jobs!

1. Becoming Steve Jobs: The evolution of a reckless upstart into a visionary leader By Brent Schneider and Rick Tetzeli Some will be shocked at why we picked this over the famous Isaacson biography., The reason is simple: because it captures the evolution in the man, especially after his first departure from Apple. It is not perfect, but it is way more human than the Mossberg book and gives us a great insight into his relationships with people!

2. Insanely Simple: The Obsession That Drives Apple's Success This is not an about Steve Jobs book, but for those who want to read about Jobs at work, creating those magical presentations and driving the team to come out with those amazing ad campaigns and messages, this is perfect. Segall interacted closely with Jobs, and this is THE book for folks wanting to figure out how he worked. Oh yes, the abrupt snaps and remarks are there. So is genius!

3. Steve Jobs by Time Magazine: The Genius Who Changed Our World Getting this one is a little tough now, but it is an excellent introduction to Jobs as seen by some very well-known journalists. There are some excellent pictures in there too. It might seem a little too cut and dry to some, but we think it is the perfect primer for anyone who wants to know what the fuss about the man is about. The multiple perspectives over time also capture his evolution!

4. The Zen of Steve Jobs By Celeb Melby This is the wild card in there, While other authors try to narrate Jobs' work and his life, Celeb Melby has come out with an entire graphic novel on the relationship between Jobs and Zen buddhist priest, Kobun Chino Otogawa. It is very minimalistically sketched and focuses more on the influence Otogawa had on Jobs and the way he thought and lived. A quiet, deep book, and one for those who love Apple's design.

5. Return to the Little Kingdom: How Apple and Steve Jobs Changed the World By Michael Moritz Michael Moritz had written a brilliant book called The Little Kingdom on Apple's release of the Macintosh. This one comes after the return of Jobs to Apple, and in our opinion is one of the most readable books on Apple and one of its founders. It is a trifle rose-tinted but just brilliantly written, Wish it had some pictures, though!

And One more: Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography By Walter Isaacson The most talked about book on Steve Jobs is terrific on detail. If you actually want to know everything that is documented about Jobs, this is your book. Why didn't it make our top five? Because we really feel that Isaacson simply played spectator and let everyone say their bit on the man. You get to know a lot about what Jobs did, but not WHY he did it. Well worth a read.
