Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the increasing amount of electronic waste being generated in the world. I came across an enterprise that plans on making phones more long lasting by encouraging customers to repair their phones. This is a pretty interesting approach. https://www.bbc.com/future/art…

This is an interesting concept. I have read about multiple such concepts in the past, which were certainly aiming in this direction. But yet to see any one of these things going mainstream.

I agree with you. This has another advantage. Right now people talk about data security. Currently, many service centers cannot be trusted as some are known to extract data without the customers consent. This may help alleviate the issue.

This is their website: https://www.fairphone.com/en/ Its a interesting concept but the quality of the phone matters. I think the latest phone costs around USD 700, which is close to 60,000 rupees

Fairphone is a great concept but for it to really work, the software platforms would have to update in a meaningful manner. Right now, it is almost as if software and hardware are hand in glove. I think a more practical approach right now would be to work out a good recycling program.

Can you elaborate a little bit more ?

Well, it is basically this: a phone will get dated in terms of performance because the new versions of software and operating systems being released demand newer hardware all the time. And more often than not, these are designed in collaboration with phone brands. It is very difficult for a phone to survive for over a couple of years without performance compromises
