Nominated for Best Live Action Short at the Oscars, Anuja is a project made mostly in good faith. When one sees names like Mindy Kaling and Priyanka Chopra Jonas attached to it, much about the film becomes clear —in vision and in direction—when the credits roll.
About a street kid named Anuja who is dealt a different hand in life: to get an education or keep earning a living. What follows is a sequence of miraculous events, which you must see for yourself, until Anuja finally has to choose between a life with her sister and moving ahead in society.
The introspective ending is a clever decision, albeit in a film that barely asks much of you.
